Squatting a Booth

July 11th and 12th, 2009
Echo Park Community Festival

Our friends at the Echo Park Film Center informed us that in the context of the economic crisis and institutional change, the new Echo Park Community Festival had a whole bunch of unoccupied booths. We took advantage of the situation by squatting a booth. We displayed items from our slide archive and distributed old agit-prop art projects we'd got our hands on.

We set up a project table for kids. We invited children to make lino-cut postcards. Postcards were made and one copy of each card was intended for a postcard to be mailed to mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. The mayors postcards demanded that he grow a spine and take executive action to improve funding at the criminally underfunded LA Unified School District.
